Cant wait. The Oregon holds 5000 and it will be used nicely without updating every where we go... just go and cache within like 50-60 miles.

How do you get 5000 waypoints in your Oregon? I thought the 450 and 550 held 2000, and the other Oregons only 1000 like the others.

GC4.) How many geocaches can I load onto my Garmin Oregon?

The Oregon 300 and 400 support up to a maximum of 2000 geocaches (in addition to the 1000 waypoint limit). The Oregon 450 and 550 support up to 5000 geocaches. All Oregons support a maximum of 200 gpx files. If you exceed either the geocache limit or the file limit the Oregon will warn you. If you exceed either limit, caches will be omitted from your Geocache list and it is not predicable as to which caches will be dropped.

Nu-uh.. It tops out around 400 because of internal memory. The SD card is used only for maps.

Uh-huh. I routinely have 800-900+ caches in my 60CSx. But if it try to load 1001, it beeps at me and tells me it's had enough. Definitely a 1000 waypoint limit.

Might be a different firmware load. I tried to put approx 400 caches to it and it freaked. Called Garmin who said around 300 was the max and to have a nice day.

The manual says 1000 waypoints, and my 60CSx has done 1000 from the day I bought it, several years back. I can't imagine why Garmin would say 300 max. Do you have a micro-SD card installed? It shouldn't matter since waypoints are stored in the GPS memory, not the card. Buy maybe your maps are taking up too much memory if there's no card in it. Try installing a uSD card - they're cheap enough, around $15.

My 60csx will hold 998 or 999, i want to say 998. I think that the missing one is the current location and maybe the last current location. I usually keep 400-500 caches in it and about 350 other points and previously found caches in it.

1000 caches seems like a ton...that is until I had to make a run to Collegeville the other day to do something for my in-laws. Figured I would grab some caches on the way home. Stopped by to visit my parents in Skippack and found that my "Home" cache query couldn't make it out to Skippack or Collegeville.

Either need to load more or cache more.

I think it depends where you load them, on the unit or the card. I can hold way more than 400 on my card. Haven't tried 1000 yet though. I know the unit can't hold diddly....

Quote corrected in red to reflect my experience with the Oregon 400t. It is a royal pain in the ass to go into the field only to find that your GPS has decided it does not want to read the gpx file. Even worse, the file is still on the unit!! The Oregon not only doesn't warn you about dropping geocaches based on a seemingly arbitrary criteria, but there is no file manager utility to offer a workaround in the field. I can not delete extraneous files or edit/truncate files that are too large unless I hook the unit to a computer. This is ridiculous not to have this functionality since it is available on Palm, iPod, Smartphones and not so smart phones.

Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Garmin better get their act together and offer something a little better than a 1Mpixel camera in order to keep me buying their crap. I am thinking that the next generation of iPhone w/ a breakage contract is the way to go.
